Google Scholar Indexing Issue

Our Journal, Global Mainstream Journal has started publishing article since 2022. This journal was google scholar indexed since then.Unfortunately, it has stopped indexing articles from September 19, 2024. On that very same day it has removed 26 articles which were published after July 7,2024 from google scholar index.

Sitemap was uptodate, scholar plugin was checked along with the perfectly inclusion of meta data of the articles. We have used doaj export plugin to add doaj meta data in order to be indexed. But still now no improvement. Guidelines of google scholar indexed have strictly followed.
I have also followed the forum but no outcome.Can any one help me who has faced this situation and then get rid from the problem? It has become too urgent.

We had the same problem. Google Scholar had been including our articles normally before. Just in the last month, Google Scholar deleted some of the articles that had been included in July-August, 2024.

Hopefully, we can get some help.

Just a guess: Maybe this problem is related to the wrong namespace declaration in the sitemap?

Hello mpbraendle,

I havent seen namespace issue on my journal. Sitemap is fetched and indexed perfectly. We have another publisher house where all the papers are indexed perfectly.

Hello LucyDRP,
Sorry to see the same sort of problem that You have been suffered.
Can you please share your steps that you have taken after this disaster?

This shows the opposite: https://globalmainstreamjournal.com/index.php/ALHE/sitemap . There is indeed a namespace error.

Can you please help to solve this error precisely!
I am not sure about how to solve the issue!

@Najmus_Saqib , @rahul11 ,

Either update to the latest version of OJS (whether 3.3 or 3.4) that includes the namespace fix or apply the fix as described in Sitemap index namespace URL shouldn't contain https · Issue #9845 · pkp/pkp-lib · GitHub

Then resubmit the sitemap at Google Search Console.

@mpbraendle I am using OJS 3.3.0.16.

So i have to upgrade it to 3.4.0.7 ?

Is there any issue in my sitemap ?

No, 3.3.0-18. Or you just change this one line of code according to pkp/pkp-lib#9845 Use http for sitemap namespace · pkp/pkp-lib@d36f60a · GitHub

@mpbraendle Sitemap is not creating by http. Sitemap is creating only by https. is it right ?

It’s about the namespace declaration (xlmns attribute in the urlset element), which needs to have a http instead of https. See e.g. https://www.chimia.ch/sitemap.xml

@mpbraendle i updated the sitemap please check is it correct ?

The sitemap looks fine.

Hello @mpbraendle,
So, it might be a possible reason. Not the core reason, behind of not indexing by google scholar!

I have the same problem. The journal has been published since 2014, and in 2021 we switched to OJS, everything was fine, but at the beginning of this year, we noticed that we are no longer in Google Scholar.

We checked the site in the Google Search Console app. The sitemap file is up-to-date and working. Although there is indexing, we have been removed.

Is there a solution?

We have tried multiple process/ways for indexing. But no update yet. Please let me know if you have any update regarding scholar indexing.

I think I found a solution, although it’s too early to say for sure. I believe the problem lies in the OJS theme. In Google Search Console, I have over 2,000 pages without a user-selected canonical version.

I checked the links, and they all work. So, I plan to change the theme (I was using Heals Science) to the default one.

Today, I will start the check, and in a couple of days, I will know for sure.

I have other thoughts as well, but let’s go with the path of least resistance.

PS: Our site was hacked, and I hope I won’t need to dig into the database. It’s a long process. :disappointed:

We are the default theme and then still experiencing articles suddenly not being covered by GS.

The theme shouldn’t be the reason. But we don’t know what the reason is, we don’t get effective solutions to fix the problem from the forum.
