Welcome to the PKP Community Forum!

The PKP Community Forum is an online discussion space for people who use, support, and develop Open Journal Systems (OJS), Open Monograph Press (OMP), Open Preprint Systems (OPS), and other PKP software and services. On the Forum, software users can get technical support from and share publishing best practices with other community members.

Everyone is welcome to join and post. You just need to create a free account and to follow the Forum Guidelines and Code of Conduct. The Guidelines help us create a space where everyone feels safe to participate and has a positive and productive experience.

Here are some things you can do on the Forum:

  • Learn how to use and troubleshoot PKP software
  • Help others use and troubleshoot PKP software
  • Get publishing practices advice
  • Learn about interesting ways that others are using PKP software
  • Showcase something unique that you did with the software
  • Share a plugin or theme you developed
  • Ask how to do a customization
  • Find PKP software developers or service providers
  • Connect with other publishers and software users
  • Suggest improvements to PKP software

PKP staff and partners work on the Forum daily and pay attention to ways that we can improve our software and services. We learn about bugs to be fixed, documentation that is needed, new features that can be developed, and organizations and people we can collaborate with.

What support is provided?

If you post on the Forum, you will receive resources and suggestions on how to troubleshoot your question or issue. But Forum members and PKP staff are not responsible for finding the solution or solving your problem. We will give you tools to troubleshoot the issue yourself.

If you do have a question about any of the PKP software, before posting it, be sure to:

  1. Check the documentation for an answer
  2. Review our tutorials
  3. Search this forum for existing questions and answers

If you still don’t find a solution, go ahead and post it here.

Community members provide support to each other on the Forum, while PKP facilitates the process. PKP staff also work on the Forum to ensure that adequate support is provided and step in when their expertise is needed.

What software applications and versions are supported?

PKP staff primarily support the two most recent major releases of OJS, OMP, and OPS.

Currently we support versions 3.2, 3.3, and higher. When we release 3.4, we will support 3.3, 3.4, and higher.

We generally do not support OJS 2, OMP 1, Open Conference Systems (OCS), and Open Harvester Systems (OHS), except with regards to advising users on how to upgrade to a newer version or OJS or OMP or transition from OCS to OJS.

We do not support older software versions because the issues that users report in older versions can often be resolved by upgrading, it is difficult to keep track of all of the different versions and changes, and we can’t maintain knowledge about software versions we no longer use and develop.

However, we understand that upgrading can be difficult and some users lack the technical expertise and resources to upgrade regularly. So we will answer questions about general software use in older versions and we will occasionally help troubleshoot technical issues if users face major barriers to upgrading.

Other users on the Forum may provide support on older versions.

Here are some resources about upgrading:
