I am working with Weblate and can’t find a way to search for a “translation item ID”, like
navigation.categories
has anybody found a way how to do it?

You can search the codebase in Github for that text, selecting “Gettext Catalog” as a filter, e.g.: https://github.com/search?l=Gettext+Catalog&q=org%3Apkp+navigation.categories&type=Code
This shows the locale key navigation.categories showing up in the locale/xx_YY/manager.po file in the PKP Web Application Library (pkp-lib) repository.

From within Weblate you can do a search on an entire project if this is what you are asking :

Nice workaround that works, @asmecher 
But the real solution is from @Marie-Helene. I don’t know how happened I haven’t see such an obvious way
