When a user logs in using their credentials, they are logged in into the system as another user.

I’m told this started happening after upgrading from 3.3.0-16 to 3.3.0.19.

Do they have journal manager privileges? If so, this level of permissions enables the journal manager to login as other users within OJS. In order to logout as a user, there should be an option in the upper right-hand corner.

Not necessarily. Some editor accounts log in and become a random author. Some authors log in as reviewers, and so on.
The username and email displayed on pages are the correct ones for the credentials used to log in, but all the other data and available actions are from another user.
I suspect they tried to upgrade to 3.4 and it failed, due to how they named the database. Sadly they didnt make a backup, so i guess we will have to undo things manually.

Thanks for providing these additional details. That doesn’t sound like the typical behavior. The attempted 3.4 upgrade may certainly help to explain this.
