I am using OJS 3.3.0.12. version and my system is Mackbook, When I want to install a plugin its showed "The tar command is not available. Please correctly configure it in your “config.inc.php”
I have changed the tar command with other advised as it was " tar = user/bin/tar " and changed to different one like “tar = C:\Windows\System32\tar.exe” and also tried others but still showed the same problem, Can someone help me with this?
Hi @Ali2,
I just ran the command which tar
on my macbook terminal and it gave me /usr/bin/tar
as the path- I suspect that is the default path for Macs (yours might be a little different though).

Hi @Ali2,
Can you elaborate further: what errors are you seeing when you try to install plugins? Perhaps you could provide a screenshot?

Hi @Ali2,
Many users have faced a similar error message, you may want to look at some of the threads here that describe how users have remedied this issue: https://forum.pkp.sfu.ca/search?q=the%20tar%20command%20is%20not%20available
This has to do with how the tar
command is configured on your setup, and the path to tar
will vary based on your server setup.

I have tried all these tricks, Its not working
I have these two file in files, and I opened and changed to all the above mention tricks, but its not working, please help to solve the problem.
Hi @Ali2,
Are you able to run the command which tar
on your webserver? That might give you an indication of where tar
is located. You could try /usr/bin/tar
- but depending on your server set up that may/may not be the correct tar
path.
