The “Articles” subheading does not appear in my OJS instance under the CrossRef XML Export Plugin

Describe the issue or problem
The “Articles” subheading does not appear in my OJS instance under the CrossRef XML Export Plugin. How can I add it?

Steps I took leading up to the issue
Iam trying to register already published articles for Crossref DOIs, so I have installed and activated all the required plugins as per the instructions

What application are you using?
OJS 3.3.0.10

Additional information

Hi @hokoth,

As per the error message - I wonder if not having it configured properly (e.g. not having an ISSN entered in your setting) is preventing it from providing the Articles tab? You could try entering an ISSN to see if that makes a difference?

Hello Roger,

Thank you for your response.

We do not yet have an ISSN, but we are in the process of obtaining one. The CrossRef team informed us that we can proceed with registering the articles for DOIs without it. However, I’m curious about the implications of entering a placeholder or random number in place of the ISSN. Would it be advisable to wait until we receive the official ISSN?

I appreciate your guidance on this matter.
Mark

Hi @hokoth,

Thanks for elaborating. We’ve always tended to require the use of an ISSN as being mandatory.
I would strongly encourage waiting until you got an ISSN, and not use a placeholder, as that could have some erroneous consequences.

Noted, @Roger. I sincerely appreciate your prompt response. We will wait for the ISSN and hope that it will resolve the current issue we are facing.

Hello @Roger, I hope you’re doing well. I received the journal ISSN on Wednesday, and after saving it under the journal settings, the “Articles” subheading appeared. However, when following the next steps from this guide, I encountered an issue. The instructions indicate that I should select the checkbox next to the articles I want to submit, but no articles appear for selection.

Does this mean I need to unpublish the issue and republish it for the articles to show up in the submission process?(see attached screenshot)

Looking forward to your guidance.

Hi @hokoth,

Yes - you will need to unpublish, ensure that you have the DOIs assigned and deposited, and then republish.

Hello @rcgillis ,
Thank you for your response. Kindly walk me through on how to get the articles to appear on that space so as to enable me to deposit them for registration. That is what is not clear from my end. How do I get the DOIs assigned and deposited? When I unpublish I still get the similar window as what I shared earlier in the screenshot.

HI @hokoth,

How to go about assigning DOIs is explained here:
https://docs.pkp.sfu.ca/doi-plugin//en/when-are-dois-assigned

And depositing/exporting is outlined here:
https://docs.pkp.sfu.ca/doi-plugin//en/doi-registration#export-registration

Hi @Roger,
You are a life saver. I have managed to hack it thank you. I have made some observations that the journal ISSN and Article DOIs usually appear on the downloadable PDF articles. Now that the DOIs are generated once the articles have been scheduled for publishing, how then can I ensure that I include the generated DOIs on the PDFs?

Hi @hokoth,

That wouldn’t be done by OJS. OJS doesnt’ do anything to add DOIs and ISSNs to the PDFs, they would have to be edited externally and added as galleys.

Hello @Roger,

I found a way around this issue! I sincerely appreciate your clear guidance throughout the process. Thank you once again for your support—keep up the great work!

Best regards,
@hokoth.
