This week we have upgraded to OJS 3.3.0-14 from version 3.3.0-8 and are experiencing an issue following our upgrade and re-indexing with our search functionality where all the available results are not found. For example in the test environment one of tests resulted in 21 search results, whereas in the search results in our live site we have 26 items returned. We are on a multi-journal instance and had this issue crop-up in our testing as well.
We added in a patch mentioned in this forum previously (forum post for the patch), which worked in our test environment. It also provided full-text search results, rather than the previous metadata-based search results we had with version 3.3.0-8. In the same search test as previously mentioned, this resulted in 53 search results rather than the previous 26.
Do you have any recommendations to resolve this issue?
The steps we took in our upgrade are as follows:
- Upgrade version to 3.3.0-14
- Install patch for search functionality
- Restore plugins
- Re-index
- Clear cache in Administration menu

Following up from my previous question to this forum, we’ve taken some steps back but are still experiences issues with our search results from our upgrade from OJS version 3.3.0-8 to version 3.3.0-14.
We had success in our Development site with installing a patch and it even seemed to provide full-text searching, but when we added the patch on the Production site we encountered issues with re-indexing as it would meet an issue which would stop the re-indexing process after each journal in our multi-journal instance. So ultimately we decided to remove the patch, so we now have upgraded to 3.3.0-14 as it is. However, we have found that we are having reduced search results show despite a successful re-indexing.
In the search below, when searching for “creek” within version 3.3.0-8 we received 2 relevant search results. Whereas, now both on our Development site test and current Production site with version 3.3.0-14 we only receive 1 search result. We have done testing and searches to see if we can find a reason for this discrepancy, but have now come across any solutions.
Does anyone know why this may be occurring and what we could try to return at least get back to receiving the same search results?

With our Developer we’ve continued looking into this issue outlined above and tried a few things, including reviewing the 3.3.0-15 build release notes and seeing if the patch #8693: Submission keywords not truncated to column length during indexing may help. Unfortunately, it did not.
A second strategy our Developer tried was to test the example searches above through the different 3.3.0 versions. What he found was that the search results resolved as expected all the way through to 3.3.0-13; however, once he tested version 3.3.0-14 that’s when the search results stopped resolving as they should. So he tested 3.3.0-15 in case upgrading would fix the issue, but found that the problem continued to exist there too.
We believe we’ve exhausted all options on our end. We’re hoping a member of the PKP team may be able to assist us with a possible patch to resolve this search issue in version 3.3.0-14 and applied by those using 3.3.0-15 as well.
