After upgrading to OJS 3.5.0-3, we’re seeing a new issue with user invitations.
In Settings → Users & Roles → Site Access Options, we have “Users must be registered and log in to view the journal site” enabled. When this setting is on, users who receive an invitation and click the activation link are not taken to an account-creation/activation flow. Instead, they’re redirected to a login prompt, even though they don’t have an account yet.
As a workaround, we currently have to temporarily disable this site privacy option to allow each invited user to create/activate their account, then re-enable it afterward.
Thanks for the great find. I have reproduced the issue and can see with this setting enabled it will block the expected workflow and prevent inviting new users. I have created a ticket to handle fixing this scenario. I do not think this is intended but I’m unsure about how powerful that setting might be. The team will review and I’ll let you know.
