Possible to edit {$notificationContents} in mail template "New notification from {$siteTitle}"? [OJS 3.1.2.1]

Dear Community,

I would like edit/modify the email template “New notification from {$siteTitle}”, especially the part defined by the variable {$notificationContents}. Is that even possible?

I would like to “insert” the Announcement description in the notification, is it posible to create variables {$announcementDescriptionShort} or {$announcementDescription} so one can use them in the notification mail template?

I found a way to insert the announcement description in the notification email by modifying getNotificationContents function in …/clases/notification/PKPNotificationManager.php, but I think it is not the right way to do this …
