Old DOI's in OMP 3.4 not working correctly

We have an OMP installation currently on OMP 3.4.0.7. The server has been running for a long time, and some of our publications have another way of displaying the DOI-link than the current way. I guess it must have been from a time/version of OMP, where DOI’s were not generated the way, they are now.

The old publications display the DOI in the right side of the book’s landing page beneath the ISBN:

When I log in, these DOI’s are not visible in the metadata anywhere I can see in the back end.

We have automatic generation of DOI’s enabled now. The old DOI’s are not recognized by the current DOI settings. This means that if I go to “DOIs” in the menu in the back end and find one of these old publications, these publications are listed as “Needs DOI”:

If we need to make a correction on one of these publications, we unpublish it and make the corrections, and when we then publish it again, it now gets a new DOI upon publication since we set up the DOI’s to be automatically generated. This new DOI is not the same as the original DOI. And of course we should not register two DOI’s for one publication, so we will not register the new DOI with Crossref. We can then go to the “DOIs” in the menu and remove the new DOI from the publication, but here I would then like to write in the original DOI, so the publication is listed as having a DOI and so the DOI will be visible on the landing page, displayed under the author names like the new DOI’s are.

However, I cannot get this to work. I have changed the DOI settings so DOI’s is not generated automatically but to “None - suffixes must be entered manually…”:

But if I then try to type in an old DOI manually and hit “Save”, I get an error message:

billede

If I instead just type in the DOI without the last part (“.5”), I am able to save it without any problems. But this DOI is not the correct DOI, so this is of course not a good solution.

So is there a solution to this problem, so I will be able to type in the old DOI’s, so they will be displayed correctly on the landing pages?

I have now actually found the solution, so I will not need an answer.

Since it does not seem possible for me to delete the post, I will then explain my solution to the problem, if anyone else should face the same problem as me.

In the DOI settings (Distribution → DOIs → Setup), I checked the box “Publication Formats”, which was previously unchecked:

And now, when I go to the “DOIs” list in the menu, I see an extra field (“Format / PDF”) for each publication, and in there, I can see the old DOI:

I then hit “Edit” and copied and pasted the DOI from the “Format / PDF” to the “Monograph” field and save, and now, I am able to save it without errors, and the DOI is displayed correctly.

Dear @alexandraFO
I have not much time to write in detail, but I think there are some points that you should recheck.

  1. If a book title with an ISBN number is registered with CrossRef, it will be rejected if you try to assign another DOI to it, or try to update changing the book title.
  2. If a monograph has been registered to Crossref and has a DOI, then you shouldn’t register it again with another DOI. You should keep its DOI in OMP system.
We can understand the origin of the errors by examining the error messages in DOI menu.
I can assist you further if needed.
    Best regards,
    Dr. Uğur Koçak
