I have a journal with OJS 3.3.0-19, which has the Google Scholar module enabled. Everything is fine in terms of Google indexing the articles, but the problem is that the journal’s Google Scholar profile has not automatically updated the associated articles. It is still showing the articles from 2024, and none of the articles from 2025 are associated with the journal. They are only in Google Scholar, but not in the profile. I tried to contact Google support without success.
The option to automatically associate articles is currently active and the module is enabled, so I don’t know what could be happening.
Recently, we’ve encountered a lot of posts with threads about journals and other publications experiencing Google Scholar issues, and we’re attempting to direct them into one place and close off the other threads in order to help keep the forum tidier in accordance with our guidelines. So, we will close this thread, and encourage you to share your experience on that thread.
Feel free to share your experience, in this thread, if you’d like. But, please know that fixing systemic issues related to Google Scholar is out of the control of PKP. Some community members may be able to comment if they’ve encountered similar problems.
In particular, I’d also like to draw your attention to this particular thread, that explains how OJS (this would also apply to OMP and OPS) operates in relation to Google Scholar:
Hello all, PKP does not have any special insight into how Google Scholar operates. The Google Scholar plugin for OJS just adds meta tags to the article pages that Google Scholar can index when it crawls your journal website. You can verify that the meta tags are in place by looking at an article’s landing page and looking for meta tags that look like this: [image] If those tags are present in your page source, then the OJS Google Scholar plugin is working properly. From there, it’s up to Go…
If you happen to be in contact with Google Scholar, and hear anything from them that can be passed on to other users of PKP software, please do share on the first thread linked to above. Many users of PKP software have been challenged with Google Scholar issues lately, so any information that can be shared with the broader community would be helpful.
