OJS 3.2: language options not showing

Hello,

Today my OJS is working abnormally, wherever the language options are printed, the platform only shows the blank space:

however, if I click on one of this blanks options the platform gets translated.

Any idea what is happening?

My php error log is not showing anything about this last error captured is from over 8 days ago.

Maybe clearing the cache would help if you have not done it already? Also, does the problem persist across browsers? I would recommend checking the browser inspector for any failure.

I already cleared the cache but it didn’t do much and the problem persist in other browsers (firefox, opera, edge), the console doesnt shown any error, but the HTML code is kinda odd:

It prints the links with its href but it’s not printing the text inside the tags

It would point to an error where the $localeName variable either does not print or does not return any text, though either way it is strange that 1° this would randomly appear and 2° that it does not seem to affect the locale key. Are you using a custom language switcher?

The behaviour is very strange indeed. Locale keys are obviously retrieved since links are generated, but locale names are not printed. The fact that it happens both in frontend and backend points to a problem early in the chain, but unless you have edited some of the core code manually, any actual error with it would be reproductible. My main guess is that something is interfering with OJS, maybe a plugin or a custom code.

Ok so I changed the client_charset from “utf8” to “utf-8” and the error of the plugins was fixed:

Hi @Juan_Lopez,

Now that the client_charset is fixed, you’ll probably need to flush your cache files to cause them to be regenerated. Try removing cache/*.php.
