Describe the issue or problem
At present, our workflow requires getting a potential reviewer’s permission before registering them as a reviewer in OJS. This additional step significantly delays the review process.
As one of our editors noted:
“This additional procedure significantly delays the review process. Journals send me review requests without asking for my permission first.”
Expected behaviour
We would like editors to be able to assign a reviewer directly, so that OJS sends the standard Review Request email where the reviewer can then accept or decline.
Steps taken leading up to the issue
-
Go to Submissions → Participants → Add Reviewer
-
Our current practice requires contacting reviewers externally to ask for permission before enrolling or assigning them in OJS
-
Only after receiving that permission do we register them and then send the request
-
This creates unnecessary delays
What application are you using?
OJS 3.5.0-1
Additional information
-
Is there a system setting or configuration that enforces this “pre-permission” requirement before adding someone as a reviewer?
-
Or is this simply a workflow practice that can be skipped by assigning reviewers directly?
-
If a setting is involved, could you point us to where we can adjust or disable it?
Our goal is to streamline reviewer assignment so editors can directly register reviewers, and the reviewer provides consent by responding to the OJS review request email (Accept/Decline).
