Describe the issue or problem
We retrieved on our platform a journal without DOIs and which only published the PDF of the entire issues, while the articles did not have their own PDF.
So we only gave a DOI to the old issues, not to the old articles, which we retrieved on our platform for metadata only to create a Table of Contents for each issue. (https://riviste.unimi.it/index.php/thereasoner/issue/archive)
The DOIs were not registered by Crossref because the issues were not linked to articles.
We have now published the new issue with the new articles (https://riviste.unimi.it/index.php/thereasoner/issue/view/2601), and I hoped that Crossref jobs would have also retrieved the old DOIs given to issues without articles, but it did not happen.
Any suggestions on how to register DOIs for issues without articles?
Steps I took leading up to the issue
The Crossref XML export plugin only allows manual submission of articles, not volumes.
What application are you using?
OJS 3.3.0.19

You could likely still register DOIs individually, even though you’ve already registered the issues. You’d just have to go back and manually deposit them (which the documentation covers how to do).
ok @rcgillis so from the documentation I understand there’s no way to deposit automatically issues DOIs if they don’t have at least one article.
This because there is not a tab Issues, but only a tab Articles.
So maybe could it be considered a feature that should be implemented, don’t you think?
Should I repost it under the catogory “features requests”? Thanks
I suspect Issus requiring that one article be assigned in order for a DOI to be assigned will remain. I’m not sure what you are hoping for here - can you please clarify further, what type of behavior you’re hoping for here?
Thanks for clarifying. I’m tagging my colleague @ewhanson here - he may be better positioned to advise if the development team would consider such a feature in the future or if something is potentially in the works along these lines for future iterations of OJS.
The problem is when an issue doesn’t contains articles, because the job doesn’t start and there is no way to send them in a semi-authomatic way from Crossref XML Export Plugin. See image above
