Our journal uses associate editors who are only allowed to make a recommendation to the editor who is overseeing a paper. When they make a recommendation, they are give the chance to provide comments for the authors and confidential comments for the editor.
However, when the editor makes a decision, the associate editor’s “comments for the the authors” do not appear in the decision letter (only the reviews appear). We can of course copy/past these comments, but that is highly suboptimal. I have looked through all the fields you can add to the decision letter, and there is no option for these comments for the author.
Does anyone know if there is a way to automatically include the associate editor’s comments for the author in the decision letter?
