Describe the issue or problem
Our OJS-based journal website (https://journals.kmanpub.com/) has not been indexed by Google Scholar for over 110 days following a server shutdown. Previously, the journal’s articles were consistently appearing in Google Scholar without any issues. Despite ensuring that sitemaps are updated, meta-tags are correct, and the Google Scholar Indexing Plugin is enabled, no new publications have been indexed since the downtime.
Steps I took leading up to the issue
The site experienced a server shutdown 110 days ago, lasting approximately one week, along with a few other shutdown incidents in the two months prior.
Once the server was back up, I verified that the sitemaps were re-uploaded and the Google Scholar Indexing Plugin was re-enabled.
Checked that Google Scholar indexing meta-tags were properly added to each article page.
Confirmed that the new publications are being indexed on Google Search but not on Google Scholar.
What application are you using?
OJS 3.4.0
Additional information
I’ve also reached out to Google Scholar support but have not yet received any helpful feedback. Below are some example articles that should have been indexed:
Facing same problem for more than 6 months
After 4 years the google scholar stopped showing articles and despite all efforts as you mentioned not able to indexed again www.bcsrj.com
I am using latest version of OJS (OJS 3.4.0-7) for our journals (https://gassjournals.com/). But our articles are not getting indexed by Google Scholar. Please Guide us what to do
We have similar experiences, almost all of us had our Google Scholar indexing paused around June-July 2024.
I checked the Google Scholar search of your website and as of July 1, your data is no longer included on Google Scholar. Ours started around June 25th. I have found in this forum that there is data no longer included on Google Scholar starting June 20th, June 21st.
I also noticed that other people in the forum were experiencing similar issues around June-July. After going through the forum, I came up with two potential reasons that I think might be the cause:
Google Scholar’s policy was adjusted in June/July 2024 to gradually exclude OJS users who did not comply with the policy;
problems with plug-ins that interfered with Google Scholar’s indexing when OJS was upgraded with version 3.4.0.x.
There are a lot of “me too” threads about recent Google Scholar issues, so I’ll direct them into one place and close off the other threads in order to help organize the forum.
I’ll leave this thread open:
