Good day,
PROBLEM:
In our most recent issue of the SAJS (https://www.sajs.co.za/), it has been brought to our attention that the Google Scholar links to our articles are resolving to the wrong galley. Please see a few example links below. If you click on ‘[PDF] from sajs.co.za’ it downloads the peer review history instead of the main article.
- Google scholar example 1
- PDF link resolves to this document (peer review history)
- Should resolve to the main document (article)
- Google scholar example 2
- PDF link resolves to this document (peer review history)
- Should resolve to the main document (article)
- Google scholar example 3
- PDF link resolves to this document (peer review history)
- Should resolve to the main document (article)
CONTEXT:
We started publishing the peer review history of our articles at the beginning of the year. It is uploaded as a galley file, in PDF format.
We have always been publishing our supplementary material in PDF format as part of the galleys, and this has never caused any issues for us on Google Scholar. However upon investigating this, I have been told by someone that when the Google Scholar crawler accesses a publication page it takes the citation meta tags to build the search index, and therefore we must only upload one PDF file in the Production galley – to be exposed to the plugin and eventually listed in the citation meta tags.
As I mentioned earlier, having more than one PDF in the galley has not caused any issues for us on Google Scholar before, so I’m not sure why this would be an issue now? It would be helpful to receive any feedback, to ensure this does not happen again for the next issue. Google Scholar has not been responding to my enquiries either. Thank you in advance!
SYSTEM DETAILS:
Currently using OJS 3.3.0.17. Soon upgrading to 3.4.
Kind regards
Nadia (SAJS)
