When I try to publish an issue, which is long and has 66 articles, the screen stays like this and never finishes the process.
This journal has published longer issues than this one, so I don’t think it has anything to do with the length of the issue.
The steps I take are the only ones to publish an issue.

The “504 (Gateway Time-out)” message means the publishing process is taking more time to finish than the amount allowed by your webserver. You have to increase this limit, then you’ll be able to proceed.
Talk to your sysadmin, they probably know what to do. If you need further suggestions, please let me know which webserver you’re running (Apache, Nginx, e.g.) and I’ll see if I can be more useful.
