We want to insert submission metadata, such as Abstract and Section in the Editor Assignment email template. Is it possible to insert these in the email template?
Adding {$submissionAbstract} to this template does not fetch the abstract text, and we were not able to find the variable for submission Section in any of the other templates or the on threads in the forum.

Please note that OJS version 3.2 is no longer supported by PKP. I would highly recommend that you upgrade to a later version at your earliest convenience.
The functionality you speak of (adding in particular email variables) is not available in OJS 3.2, but is available in OJS 3.4 and later). For an overview of how this works within specific templates, see this post here: How does the tag {$submissionReviewUrl} work? - #5 by rcgillis

Many thanks for your reply. We are working towards upgrading our OJS installation.
I did check the post you linked and checked the email templates in the 3.4 demo as well. While I found the functionality of adding specific variables, including the submission Abstract variable, I couldn’t find a variable for inserting submission Section. Is this a variable not available for use in 3.4 as well?

Only select variables are available through the “Insert Content” option in place within the editing interface for email templates. Variables should not be copy/pasted or typed into email templates. Only certain variables work for certain email templates - they are not interchangeable from one email template to the next. If a variable is not available to be inserted, it likely cannot be used within a given email template.
