Is there PKP-recommended backup format: ZIP, TAR, GZ or other archive format? I have been using ZIP but wonder if the Tar Archive, GZiped Tar Archive, or BZip2ed Tar Archive (listed for compression formats in OJS) work better, should the system require a full restore. Thank you in advance for any advice, insights, or experiences.
Thank you, Roger.
I though that the full system backup in the host’s cpanel will be sufficient, but I would regard PKP’s methods more accurate. I had one question in mind: one of the upgrades has left an old folder in place : public_html_old. Can this be discarded (since it is taking up quite a bit of space with duplicate files matching those in public_html)? Thank you!

The system back that the cpanel generates is probably for migrating everything from one cpanel to another site’s cpanel. Which archive format is best for backup and restoring OJS folders that @rcgillis pointed me to:ZIP archive, Tar Archive, GZiped Tar Archive, or BZip2ed Tar Archive? I have read into some comparisons of .zip and .tar (pros and cons), but in Linux environments, I have seen more .gz and .tar archives.
Best!
Arjun
I use .tar.gz out of habit, but I think any of those options will work just as well. (We used to distribute the software with a couple of symlinks included, which didn’t always work well with .zip files or on Windows, but we’ve stopped doing that.)
