@Addthis, @Google Analytics and the GDPR.
We are planning to upgrade to 3.1 and are wondering if the usage of AddThis and Google Analytics (GA) is compliant to the new GDPR. We plan to stop using GA when we upgrade and then see how the situation develops. Our problem is AddThis. Does anybody know whether the interaction between OJS 3.1 and AddThis complies with the GDPR? Moreover, does anybody know if there are any other solutions? We would prefer to have a service like AddThis.
Hi @thestrup,
I can’t comment on the GDPR compliance of the AddThis and Google Analytics services themselves, but I can say that the OJS integration doesn’t add any particular wrinkles to that question. If the AddThis and Google Analytics services are GDPR compliant, the OJS integration simply chucks them onto the site.
We’re soon going to add the Shariff plugin by the talented @lilients to the plugin gallery; until then it’s available at Releases · ojsde/shariff · GitHub. That service is intended to add social media sharing features without compromising privacy.

Dear Alec
Thank you this saved my day.

I would like to know whether the Google Analytics plug-in supports IP anonymization
I just checked to see if Shariff is available as a plug-in. It’s listed, but when I click on it for details, it seems to be a mash-up of Shariff and Hypothes.is. So what is the status of Shariff? We’re using AddThis but it’s pretty limited, so I wondered if Shariff would offer more options (like an obvious social media panel right on our home page).
Hi @achristian,
What version of OJS are you using?

The latest version of 3.X. Sorry I didn’t include that!

Hi @achristian,
Hmm, I couldn’t reproduce that mash-up behavior on my OJS 3.1.1-4 installation… The 3.0.0 release of the plugin should be compatible with OJS 3.1.1-x, so I’d suggest installing it from Releases · ojsde/shariff · GitHub by downloading it to your machine and then uploading it into the plugins area as a .tar.gz package. As for general capabilities, I’d suggest asking the author of that plugin if you have any questions.
