Plagiarism plugin

Is it possible to use Turnitin as a plugin? Currently, only iThenticate is supported.

Hello @Istvan_Varga,

There is presently no Turnitin plugin for OJS. Likely a third party would have to develop one that integrates with Turnitin. Our guide provides some assistance on how to go about developing plugins: https://docs.pkp.sfu.ca/dev/plugin-guide/en

Please note that TurnitIn has been the subject of considerable criticism in the educational community:

Thank you very much for the information, it was very informative. The question arose because one of our universities signed a contract with Turnitin.

Let’s me start saying that I’m not a big fan of the plagiarism tools for the reasons exposed in the article, and because they give a fake sensations of security.

I know about authors that see how they works were refused, just because they literally quote other works and I’m sure now (with the AI contribution) it’s extremely easy to rephrase the original work making plagiarism tools useless.

Furthermore, I didn’t read the iThenticate terms but I’m wondering how they can detect plagiarism without asking first for similar rights that Turnitin.

Actually, if I’m not mistaken, Turnitin recently bought iThenticate (or vice versa) and now they are both the same.

Cheers,
m.

HI @marc,

You’re correct. Both are products of Turnitin LLC, which is a subsidiary of a larger company, Advance. So far as I can tell, Turnitin is geared more towards an educational market, and iThenticate is directed more towards publishing. They may in fact draw on the same proprietary algorithms/approaches—just marketed towards different audiences.
