Hi everyone,
I am very excited to have joined the PKP team recently as the new OMP Coordinator. My job is to focus on OMP and give it some dedicated attention, leading up to a report and recommendations that will help shape the future of the software and (hopefully) this community of users.
A little background to start: I have been working on open publishing infrastructure for close to a decade now, starting with Pressbooks, then Rebus Foundation, and most recently, Knowledge Commons (formerly Humanities Commons). Books and the humanities have always been my first love in the publishing world, and I’ve recently launched my own independent press, Radish Press, which has all sorts of weird and wonderful publishing things in the works. All of this experience comes with me into the OMP role and I’m excited to help support the amazing work you all do!
Here’s an overview of the work I’ll be leading over the coming months.
I’ve started with an internal assessment, gathering what the team already knows and dreams of for OMP, and now I’m looking to you all to share the same.
I will be reaching out to some folks directly for a one-on-one interview, but I want to hear from more of you so am planning a couple of focus group/town hall-style gatherings, likely for Jan 2025. If you’d like to participate and/or keep up to date on the work as it progresses, follow along here and I’ll be sure to share more information in the coming weeks.
In the meantime, I would love to hear any initial responses to the plan, reflections on OMP from your perspective, and anything else you think I need to know!
I really look forward to working with you throughout this process. Everything we do at PKP has community at its heart, and I thank you for your support.
Zoe
