In next OJS Update: Removing 'index.php'

Dear PKP,

As you may know, there are many threads about removing ‘index.php’ from the OJS URL link to make that link more user-friendly. There are solutions in many threads; however, many people are reporting difficulties in fixing that issue.

Suggestion: is it possible to include that ‘removing index.php’ from OJS URL in the next OJS update.

Many thanks and best wishes,
Mohamad

Hi @OAMM,

The complications are to do with web server configuration; I’m afraid this isn’t something that’s within OJS’s control.

Understood - thanks Alec for your response!

What are the web server requirements that will guarantee to remove ‘index.php’?

For example, Hostgator with these specifications will allow that or not Apache mod_rewrite and Examples | HostGator Support

Many thanks and best wishes

Hi @OAMM,

I can’t give much guidance on specific hosts, as they all have their quirks, but generally if a host will support mod_rewrite (or a similar mechanism), that’s something you can use to rewrite away the index.php in the URL.
