Discourse comments for WordPress blog entries

Discourse supports linking to a single WordPress instance for commenting.

At the bottom of https://pkp.sfu.ca/2025/06/30/production-changes-plans/ it says:

:red_question_mark: If you have any technical questions related to these changes and plans, please post in the PKP Community Forum so everyone can benefit.

Using https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-discourse/ could allow to see comments directly at the articles, but have them moderated into the powerful Discourse engine.

Is this something that seems worth exploring?

Thanks for sharing @jonr. Flagging this for my PKP comms colleagues @Alejandra_Casas and @fracy for their thoughts.

I think the use of such a plugin would necessitate the creation of a new subcategory here on the forum that each news item would be posted in. Certainly not a problem to do, but it might result in somewhat of a bifurcation of our news content - directing users to two different sources for news and auxiliary content (discussions and comments). I could also see it as a sustainability issue if that plugin were to ever be discontinued and we became overly reliant on it. That said, I don’t know for sure unless this was tested out.

Lots to think about
