Convoluted chapters, files and page nubers

What is the point of this extremely convoluted method of adding chapters, where I first have to enter infor on all authors, then all chapters, then upload all the chapter files then assign the authors to their respective chapters and assign the corresponding file. When viewing the book after publishing all chapters are displayed along with their authors, immediately following the Synopsis, but there is no mention of the page numbers in the complete book manuscript nor any links to the files I selected. Looks like I have to name the files after the chapters and just have them listed on the right hand side. What am I missing here. Why assign a file to a chapter if there is no apparent point?
