Coalition S reporting requirements

Describe the problem you would like to solve
We upload our journal information to the Journal Comparison Service for Coalition S and they have started requiring a unified template. Info pasted below. It asks for information that we don’t know how to extract from OJS statistics:
Median Number Reviews
Median Time Submission To First Decision
Median Time Peer Review
Median Time Acceptance To Publication
Counter 5 Unique Item Requests

We got some approximation of this information by downloading the very very complex Articles Report csv and doing calculations based on our interpretations of the extremely many columns therein. But we hardly believe that what we have is accurate, and it’s a terrible way to try to find this information.

Describe the solution you’d like
But is there a straightforward way to calculate this kind of information in the system? If not, could this be a feature request, given that Coalition S is so important in the European research / grant community?

Who is asking for this feature?

A copy of the Information Power framework template can be found at: https://www.coalition-s.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Journal_Comparison_Service_Data_Collection_Information_Power.xlsx This xls file contains notes on how the data must be formatted and which fields are mandatory. Hi @NJAS,

Please see our guide for how to go about getting the relevant statistics information here:
https://docs.pkp.sfu.ca/plan-s/en/#statistics

Would that suffice for your needs?

Thanks for the quick reply! It’s great to know about this information.
I still can’t figure out how to calculate
Median Time Submission To First Decision (our version of OJS just shows the number of days within which 80% of submissions get a first decision)
Median Time Peer Review (I understand this to mean time from submission until the peer review process is completed)
Median Time Acceptance To Publication (I don’t know how to find a list of the dates articles were accepted)

We’re still using OJS 3.3 so maybe more of this information is calculable in the reports from 3.4.x versions?

Perhaps this plugin we developed for Scielo Brasil will help:

Thanks @abadan - for sharing your plugin!
If you have a moment and can create a dedicated post on the “Community Showcase” category for the plugin, that would be much appreciated.

I note that this seems to only be compatible for 3.4, so @NJAS - you’d have to upgrade to make use of it.

@NJAS: I’ve inquired with one of our team members who are more well-versed about Plan S, about some of these specific reporting requirements - hopefully they’ll be able to weigh in on it soon.
