Describe the issue or problem
Some of our editors are thinking about exploring open peer review/commentary options that they might be able to use with their OJS journals. I’m interested in seeing what OJS and its plugin ecosystem for OJS 3.4+ have as options to support open peer review/commentary for articles.
I would love to hear from other publishers/editors that are already doing this with OJS 3.4+ and how this works for them.
What application are you using?
OJS 3.3.0-8
Hi @mreedks,
Just a heads up that on the PKP development side of things foir supporting Open Peer Review, a lot of work around Open Peer Review is slated for version 3.6, which is still a ways off and under development at this point: [Implementation] Open Peer Review · Issue #11309 · pkp/pkp-lib · GitHub

@rcgillis Thank you for the response! We will look forward to Open Peer Review options in version 3.6. I’m not sure how many of our journals would actually move ahead with it, but some are definitely interested in considering it.
If you want to do some user testing once you are ready, I can find you editors that could help.

Hi @mreedks,
There are a few things to tinker with in the meantime. Depending on what you mean by Open Review, there is…
- the public review plugin, which is a proof of concept plugin that publishes peer review information along with the article, and
- the hypothes.is plugin, which has been around for quite a while, but can be used to add public commenting to published content.
