Hi @asmecher
** Describe the problem you would like to solve**
Our editors need a way to transfer submitted articles to a more suitable journal without requiring resubmission. Currently, if an article does not align with the scope of a journal, the author must withdraw and resubmit to another journal, leading to unnecessary delays and additional workload for both authors and editors.
** Describe the solution you’d like**
We propose a built-in article transfer feature in OJS that would allow editors to seamlessly move articles to another journal within the same system while maintaining submission integrity. Key features of this functionality should include:
- Editor-Controlled Transfer – The editor should have the ability to transfer an article to a more relevant journal without requiring withdrawal and resubmission.
- Author Consent – The transfer should proceed only with the author’s approval to ensure transparency.
- Preservation of Submission Data – The article, along with its metadata, peer reviews, discussions, and submission history, should move seamlessly to the new journal.
- Tracking & Notification System – Automatic notifications should be sent to the author and the receiving journal’s editor about the transfer status.
- Permission Settings – Admins or journal managers should be able to define transfer permissions to ensure controlled access to this feature.
Who is asking for this feature?
- Journal Editors – To streamline editorial workflow and match articles with suitable journals.
- Journal Administrators – To enhance submission management and reduce duplicate submissions.
- Authors – To avoid unnecessary withdrawal and resubmission, ensuring a smoother publication experience.
Additional Information
This feature would reduce editorial workload, improve the submission experience for authors, and enhance overall efficiency in managing manuscripts across multiple journals within OJS.
We appreciate your consideration of this request and look forward to your feedback.
