I would like to use the {$submissionReviewUrl} tag in discussions or email to confirmed reviewers, but when used, it does not populate with the actual url.
I would like to understand how it works, as it gives a bad impression on the recipient.
Any suggestion or further information on merge fields is much appreciate.
Hi @lsteele,
If you’re using the {$submissionReviewUrl}
tag in templates other than the ones it comes with originally, it’s unlikely to work. Often times, the tag that is in place only works with select templates—they cannot be used interchangeably with different templates.
What version of OJS are you working from (e.g. 3.3.0-19)? And, are you using the one-click review option (for reviewers not registered within the system)?
Could you elaborate further on what you mean by this - I’m not sure I understand.

Hi Roger,
thank you for your reply. I guessed the variable would not be usable everywhere…
We are on 3.3.0.13, hopefully migrating to 3.5 at some point in the near future.
With regards to the letters in use, I admit I get confused between the “normal” letters and “one-click” options, therefore they offer the same text and variables.
I would like to have a table listing all variables and their behaviour: for example, with regards to the {$submissionReviewUrl} I would like to know in advance that you cannot use it where you like, but that it works only on certain letters.
I would like to have the freedom to create letters customized for each need, even from scratch if necessary. I noticed (at least in our version of OJS) that it is no longer possible to edit them using the html template, thus making a simple copy-paste rather along process.
I know they are pain points, but correspondence is vital in the handling of peer review.
Thank you for your support,
Lucia
Hi @lsteele,
As of OJS 3.4 (and subsequently in 3.5), this functionality changes: when going to add/edit any email templates there is the option to “Insert Content” in the email template, from there you can choose from a list of variables that ought to work within the specific template. To get a feel for this, you can try it in the Workflow settings in our 3.4 test drive: https://pkp.sfu.ca/software/ojs/demo/
