Transferring DOIs from Crossref to DataCite

Describe the issue or problem
We now have a DataCite subscription for generating DOIs in addition to Crossref. Within our OJS instances (version 3.4.0.8) several journals have used the Crossref plugin to reserve and register DOIs. Our current total of OJS Crossref DOIs is around 2,500.

We want to keep the DOI prefix (and DOIs) for these articles, but centralise DOI generation on to DataCite. DataCite provides good information on how to transfer prefixes to them (https://support.datacite.org/docs/prefix-transfers-and-aliasing#transfer-a-prefix-and-dois-from-another-registration-agency-to-datacite) and says we will need to re-register the DOIs with DataCite.

However, they don’t provide any information on how to re-register these DOIs with them, but don’t provide any instructions on how to do this.

Has anyone ever done this within OJS, and if so, how exactly did you do it? If we change the DOI registration agency from Crossref to DataCite (under ‘Distribution > DOIs > Registration’) will this automatically re-register the DOIs with DataCite?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

What application are you using?
OJS 3.4.0.8

Hi @mkmiec ,

After doing the administrative move to Datacite, just change the DOI configuration in your OJS to Datacite and include the new account information (user, pass). After that, you need to register again all your DOIs in OJS.

This is the point 5 in Datacite instructions: The Repository or DataCite Member (re-)register all DOIs in DataCite, including metadata. They Member must let DataCite know once this has been completed.

This will send the metadata of your items in OJS to Datacite system, and this will be managed only in Datacite.

You can later go to Datacite Fabrica (https://doi.datacite.org/) and check for your DOIs and metadata in Datacite.
