Describe the issue or problem

When closed for submissions, authors see this message “This journal is not accepting submissions at this time. Visit the workflow settings to allow submissions”. Authors cannot open for submissions, hence poor communication to them. I get many questions about how they can open for submissions

Hi @poulalberg,

If you go to Workflow - Submissions - “Disable Submissions” - is that option selected?
Typically this message displays when it is. Note that you will require Journal Manager positions to be able to access this.

Thanks for your prompt reply. Maybe I should have stressed that I am the editor and I close for submissions - but the authors are told to “Visit the workflow settings to allow submissions” which is not relevant for them.

Indeed, an optional message could be useful - so editors could stress when it reopens.
