Submission reconnecting error

Describe the issue or problem
Abstract is set to 300 Words, when author reach the submit button it keeps saying reconnecting. I found a way to let the author complete the submission, but reducing the number of words to almost 200

Steps I took leading up to the issue

Go to make submission complete all field. add abstract to the limit
Click on next tell you reach submit and it keep saying reconnecting.

What application are you using?
OJS 3.5.0-4

Additional information
I am also asking author to use incognito mode, I am hoping nothing with cookies conflict

To update OJS 3.5.0-5 not 4

Hi @aalzaidy,

Are you able to check your PHP error logs? The “reconnecting” messages suggests to me that there might be something occurring behind the scenes and the PHP error log messages often reveals what that is.

Below The error log, please note that 1. when I reduce the wordcount for abstract it will work without any issues. the error log also show an error since I upgraded into 3.5.0-5

Hi @aalzaidy,

Open the browser’s developer tools and see what the server response is when you hit the Submit button. I suspect you’ll find that the server is responding with a 401 code. It’s likely that your server has mod_security (or a similar tool) installed, and something about the submission’s contents is causing it to falsely think the server is being attacked.

Attached Pictures are taken by one of my reviewers, However it also apply on submitting a review. When I asked the reviewer to paste only text no formatting when copied from word for example it will keep saying reconnecting or no submission showing up. about mod security what setting I should change from the server I have the server access

Also Notice that reviewer credit is there, so I went and disabled the directory of reviewer credit as there is no one to remove from the system, I may need to modify the files and update the database.

Hi @aalzaidy,

The 500 error should correspond to a more detailed error message in your server’s logs. Make sure to check both the Apache error log and the PHP error log; they can be stored in different places, depending on your server.

The warnings you posted above are just warnings, and won’t result in a 500 error. There should be something more.
