PKP PLN Not Recognizing Journal (OJS 3.4.x) – “Network Status: The PKP PLN does not know about this journal yet.”

We are reaching out for advice regarding an issue with activating the PKP Preservation Network (PLN) for our journal.

Journal Information:

  • Journal Website: https://big-design.org/

  • Online ISSN: 3078-4204

  • Print ISSN: 3078-4190

  • OJS Version: 3.3.0.20

  • Publisher: World Eco-Design Organization

We have completed all the required steps to enable the PKP PLN plugin, including:

  • Filling in all journal details in the Masthead (ISSNs, publisher information, etc.)

  • Enabling the PKP PLN plugin

  • Accepting the Terms of Use

However, the system still shows the following message on the dashboard:
“Network Status: The PKP PLN does not know about this journal yet.”

We would like to ask:

  • Is there typically a delay before newly configured journals are recognized by the PLN?

  • Are there any additional metadata fields or settings that we might have overlooked?

  • Does this issue relate specifically to OJS 3.3.0.20 versions?

We would greatly appreciate any guidance or suggestions from the community or PKP team.

Thank you very much for your support!

Hi @shaw,

How long ago did you take the steps to enable the plugin/take the initial steps to setup the PKP PN for your journal? There is sometimes a delay.

Hi Roger,

Thank you for your reply. We enabled the PKP PLN plugin and completed all required setup steps approximately one month ago, so it seems unlikely that this is just a normal delay. Any further guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @shaw,

Thanks for the further info. I’m paging my colleague @jonasraoni - here who oversees our PKP PN operations on our side - he may be able to speak further to this.

Hi Roger,

Thanks again for bringing @jonasraoni into the conversation.

Just following up since it’s been about two weeks, and I’m wondering if our previous message may have been missed. @jonasraoni , would you mind taking a look when you have a chance? We’d really appreciate any guidance or support on this issue.

Thanks in advance!

Shaw

Hi Roger,

I hope this message finds you well.

We are reaching out to follow up on an issue we previously raised regarding activating the PKP Preservation Network (PLN) for our journal, Big Design (OJS 3.3.0.20, ISSN: 3078-4204 online, 3078-4190 print).

About a month ago, you kindly brought @jonasraoni into the discussion regarding this matter. However, it is possible that our previous message was missed, as we have not yet received a response from @jonasraoni and the issue remains unresolved.

We would greatly appreciate any guidance or advice. If possible, could you kindly let us know if there is someone else on the team who might be able to assist us in resolving this issue?

Thank you very much for your time and support.

Best regards,

Shaw

Hi @shaw,

Sorry for the delay. I have notified @jonasraoni of this, who is our main technical staff member working with PKP PN issues of this nature. He may not have yet had the opportunity have a look, but he has been notified of this issue and will respond as he is able.

Hi @shaw,

I couldn’t find your journal on our end. I’d say there might be something the external request to our server.

Can you take a look at the error log of your server and the newest log file of the plugin (it should be located at the folder {$files_dir}/scheduledTaskLogs/ (there should be text files starting with the name PKPPLNDepositorTask)?

Best,
Jonas Raoni

Hi @jonasraoni,

Thank you for your response.

I checked the system but could not find the relevant log files. Our OJS 3.3.0.20 installation is running in a containerized environment, and the PLN plugin is located at:

/var/www/html/plugins/generic/pln

During my inspection, I was unable to locate the log files you mentioned under the scheduledTaskLogs directory. I am wondering whether there may be an issue with the plugin installation or configuration.

For reference, our journal information is as follows:

Journal website: https://big-design.org/
Online ISSN: 3078-4204
Print ISSN: 3078-4190

Please let me know if there are any other locations I should check or any additional information I can provide to help diagnose the issue.

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,

Shaw

Hi @rcgillis and @jonasraoni ,

I hope you are both doing well.

I just wanted to kindly follow up on this issue in case my previous email or forum message may have been missed.

After Jonas’s previous suggestions, I checked our system and sent a follow-up email with the details of my findings a few weeks ago. Since I had not received a response, I also left a message here on the forum. I understand that messages can sometimes be overlooked, so I thought I would kindly check again.

Roger, could you please help me check with Jonas whether he has had a chance to see my previous messages? I would really appreciate your help in making sure the information has reached him.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance. I appreciate any guidance you can provide.

Best regards,

Michelle

Hi @shaw,

Thanks for your message and your patience. I’m sure @jonasraoni will respond when he has the opportunity - he may have been away or not able to tend to this right away.
