[OMP] Displaying Chapters as individual PDF's + Whole Book

Hi all,

I am sorry I am trying to use OMP 3.1.0. I would like to have separate PDFs for each chapter as well as a PDF for the whole book (like on your demo system http://langsci-press.org/catalog/book/167). I have added the PDF for the whole book, but I don’t know how to add PDFs to the chapters. Can you please advise?

Regards, Primož

Hi @primozs,

When you’re at the Production stage of your submission and you are adding Publication Formats, you can add Chapter PDFs as well as a PDF for the whole monograph.

Hi @astevens
I am sorry, I don’t get it. Can you please help me? I have reproduced the situation on the OMP test drive (http://omp.sfu.ca/testdrive), Paper House press, Book 1 (http://omp.sfu.ca/testdrive/index.php/cdp/catalog/book/50)

Can you please look it? I would like to have the pdf “Preface to chapter 1” as a PDF for the Chapter 1, but I don’t know how to do it. How to specify that certain PDF belongs to a chapter and not to a book?
So the “Full Book” is to be PDF of the whole book, while “Preface to chapter 1” should be at the Chapter 1.

Best regards, Primož

Hi @primozs,

I looked at the test book that you uploaded to OMP testdrive and it looks like you were able to accomplish what you wanted to do. There is a PDF loaded for the full book and a separate PDF loaded for the chapter.

Hi @astevens,

I guess I was not clear enough. I would like to have chapter PDFs visible the same way as it is on your demo system (http://langsci-press.org/catalog/book/167). I have highlighted the chapter PDFs I have been talking about:

So that chapters PDFs are at “chapters area”, while other book object (PDFs, ePubs,…) are at “book area”. I can accomp0lish only adding everything to the “book area”.

Hi @primozs,

do you still need help? Sebastian forwarded your mail to me.

Go to “Catalog Entry” → Chapters → Click on a chapter name → in section “Files” select the File name you want to associate with the chapter. The files are uploaded in the production stage, section “Publication Formats”. The name of the uploaded file (you can enter during the upload process) will be shown to you the the catalog entry tab, the name of the publication format will be shown on the website. This way, publication formats and chapters can be conntected.

Does this answer your question?

best,
Carola

Hi @primozs,

I made a test submission on the test drive and it is as you say, the download button for the chapter appears in the right column. In my OMP 1.2 test installation, it appears in the chapter listing.

Maybe this is a difference in versions @asmecher ?

I have another 3.1.0 test version, where the download buttons for chapter also appear at the left, in the chapter listings.

Carola

Hi @carola,

Thank you very much for help. Wha I have not figured out is that I have to create a new publication format for each chapter.

Well, there is still a question for @asmecher about different columns…

Best regards, Primož

Hi @primozs,

What is your question about columns?

Hi @asmecher,

Please look at the pictures from @carola. There are two pictures from two
different versions of OMP. Look at the location of PDFs for chapters. In
one version they are bellow PDF for a book, while on other version they are
in the TOC.

Best regards, Primož

Hi all,

The testdrive installation at omp.sfu.ca/testdrive is currently also on OMP 1.2, so I don’t think it’s a difference in the code. I suspect the difference is whether or not the files are associated with the chapters; this can be done from the Catalog Entry modal, in the chapter listing. Edit each chapter and check the list of files associated with it.

Hi @carola,

Hm, I am a bit confused now. As far as I undrestand it, you have managed to associate files with chapters, right?

Best regards, Primož

Hi @primozs,

mmhh, I remember I did, but maybe I did not save it properly or something else happened. It is removed now so I cannot check it. In my test installations (1.2, 3.1) it always works, as you see in the screenshots, so I would simply assume everything is fine.

Carola

Hi @carola and @asmecher

Now the test drive is set up again (http://omp.sfu.ca/testdrive/index.php/cdp/catalog/book/53), can I ask you to try to manage to get the PDFs fro chapters in the TOC?

Best regards, Primož

Hi @carola and @asmecher

Don’t bother with this anymore. It looks like the test drive is somehow corrupted. I have repeated the suggested steps on my installation (OMP 3.1.0) and it works.
Thank you for your help!

Best regards, Primož

Hi @asmecher,

there is a strange phenomenon concerning the creation of chapters:
When creating a chapter, the title of the chapter appears on the landing page, but not the button with the link.
To see the button, I have to select the file again in the Add Chapter modal window and click in the white area next to it and save it again.
I always had to open the Add Chapter twice and then save the selected file to see the button.
I tested it using Firefox and Chrome on the pkp demo server, too. Same behaviour.

Hi @habib,

What version of OMP are you using?

Hi @asmecher , it’s OMP 3.1.2.1

I have the same issue with OMP 3.1.2.1 (https://books.fe.up.pt/index.php/feup/catalog/book/978-972-752-260-6). Chapters are correctly presented but without the link to the pdf, which is available (Versão Chapter 1 do ficheiro administrator, 978-972-752-260-6_0001-0004.pdf). In the test environment already tried the upgrade to latest version of OMP but same issue. How is it possible to solve?
