OJS 3.5.0.3: Section Editors Cannot Access Assigned Submissions

Hello PKP Community,

We recently upgraded our journal to OJS 3.5.0.3, and we are encountering an issue with user roles—specifically Section Editors.

After assigning submissions to Section Editors:

  • They cannot see or access the assigned manuscripts in their dashboard.

  • The submissions do not appear under their active or assigned queues.

  • This issue started after the upgrade (it was working correctly before).

What we have checked so far:

  • Confirmed that users are correctly assigned the Section Editor role

  • Verified that submissions are properly assigned to the Section Editors

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @serunjogid,

A few additional things you can check:

  1. Check that the role has access to the appropriate stage: https://docs.pkp.sfu.ca/learning-ojs/journal-managers/en/users#permissions-roles
    I suspect this is not quite the issue, since, if it was working for you pre-upgrade, this is probably not the issue, but worth checking, just in case.
  2. Check your PHP error log for relevant error log messages (depending on your level of access you may need to have your sys admin or similar person check this for you). You can see more about how to do this here: How do I find my PHP error log?
