[OJS 3.3.0.21] Competing Interests field not showing in frontend

Describe the issue or problem

We flagged in Workflow - Metadata, “Competing Interests”. While it’s shown as a field in the author tab, when it’s filled it’s not shown on the article landing page.

Hi @andrea.colliv,

I don’t believe the competing interests displays publicly as part of publicly visible metadata - had you seen this previously? I always thought that this displayed just behind the scenes to editors.

Hi Roger,

I’m not sure if they appeared previously on the article landing page, but if I’m not mistaken neither editors could see them (they’re in the Author form, and editors could not open that).

And CI seem to be accessible by the Publication Facts Label, at least, is it correct?

Hi @andrea.colliv,

Yes - correct - I believe that information is recorded and collated through the Publication Facts Label. However, competing interests are typically stored as submission/review metadata for editors, not displayed as public article metadata alongside title, abstract, etc. It can be configured to collect the field, but the standard setup does not publish it on the public article landing page.

If one desires to display it publicly. that would require theme customization,and/or template changes rather than a built-in default public metadata display. I wouldn’t recommend that unless you had experience with modifiying the theme/code.
