[OJS-3.1.2] possible to include content of discussion messages in notification emails?

Hi,

Our journal is currently running OJS-3.1.2, and we’re getting questions from people who have been added as participants to the editorial workflow for a submission. They’re receiving notification email messages, such as (I’ve replaced salient parts with ‘x’):

You have been added to a discussion titled “Possible reviewers” regarding the submission “article xxx”.
Link: https://xxx/index.php/journal/workflow/access/199

or:

There is new activity in the discussion titled “Comments for the Editor” regarding the submission “article xxx”.
Link: https://xxx/index.php/journal/workflow/access/199

Some of the recipients find it annoying that they only see the link, and would prefer to have the actual content of the discussion included in the notification email, or to be able to set this as a preference in their user profile.

Concerning user preferences, I only see the possibility to either enable or disable notifications for notifications labeled as “Discussion added” and “Discussion activity”. No control over the content of these email messages there, so I had a look at the different email templates. It seems that all notification emails are using the same template NOTIFICATION. I guess this makes it difficult to differentiate between notification types, and include the actual content of discussion messages in the notification emails.

So, my main question is: is this possible at all, to have OJS-3.1.2 include the actual content of discussion messages in the notification emails?

Kind regards,

Ron

Hi @rvdb,

Our concern with moving workflow content into the announcement emails is that it’ll encourage users to hit “Reply” and write an email back.

We have a strategy to resolve this fully, which is to permit the software to receive reply emails and merge contents into the workflow as though a task were performed through OJS. But this will take some time.
