OJS 3.1.1.4 getting blank page

Hi,

Saturday I tried to upgrade from 3.1.1.4 to 3.1.2 and got 405 not allowed error 405 not allowed nginx/1.14.1. After this, I replaced my old files and database from my backup. After that I am getting only blank page. if I remove plugins folder I am getting the home page without style but login page is not working. My site threatenedtaxa.org is not working for the last 2 days. Urgent help is required.

The “plugins” folder is required. Are you removing it entirely? It looks like you have an old version of the “booksForReview” plugin in the “plugins/generic” folder which was causing the initial error. I would remove only that folder from within the plugins folder.

Was the upgrade process successful? If not, you’ll need to upgrade once more from a backup. Do not forget to remove the problematic plugin before an upgrade.

No the upgrade was failure. So I have my old version 3.1.1.4 files back. I removed the BookReview plugin but still getting blank page.

Is this the error that you have encountered after the new upgrade? If yes, it says that by the specified path the file is missing or haven’t got enough permissions. Can you double check this?

Restoring to the previous version will involve replacing each of the following to the pre-upgraded state:

OJS Code
Private and Public Files
OJS Database

Once you have replaced each, your should be able to try accessing the system as it was prior to the upgrade. Note that you cannot merge the code, files, or database with the partially upgraded counterpart. You must fully remove the code, files and database and restore the clean backup.

If you still encounter a PHP error after restoring the clean backup of the code, files, and database, let us know what the error message reads.

I have solved the login issue. Now the submission page is not working. I am not getting the submission list.

Actually when I upgraded from 2.4.8 to 3.1.1.4, many old files stayed in the current folders. I was going through each folder and erasing the unwanted files one by one and it started working. Only submission page is not working.

It’s odd that everything was working fine, after up-gradation to 3.1.1.4, for the last 6 months but suddenly everything happened when i tried to upgrade to 3.1.2.

Unless you have a lot of local modifications to the source code, I would strongly recommend replacing the source code with a clean copy of OJS 3.1.1-4, using the “Full Package” upgrade instructions:

1. Full Package

If you have not made local code modifications to the system, upgrade by 
downloading the complete package for the latest release of OJS:

    - Download and decompress the package from the OJS web site into an empty
      directory (NOT over top of your current OJS installation)
    - Move or copy the following files and directories into it from your current
      OJS installation:
        - config.inc.php
        - public/
        - Your uploaded files directory ("files_dir" in config.inc.php), if it
          resides within your OJS directory
    - Synchronize new changes from config.TEMPLATE.inc.php to config.inc.php
    - Replace the current OJS directory with the new OJS directory, moving the
      old one to a safe location as a backup
    - Be sure to review the Configuration Changes section of the release notes
      in docs/release-notes/README-(version) for all versions between your
      original version and the new version. You may need to manually add
      new items to your config.inc.php file.

Having dangling files from old versions mixed in with a newer release is likely to cause problems.

I have done as you suggested. Now some of the backend tabs (components, plugins, roles, users, etc.,) are just loading but not seems to get the data

Ensure you do not have “display_errors” set in your config.inc.php. Check your PHP error log for associated “PHP Error” or “PHP Fatal” messages.

You may find more details by using your browser’s “Web Inspector” tool to see any javascript errors (in the Console) or failed HTTP traffic from the Network tab.
