Hi Asmecher,

I got the same message like “{“status”:true,“content”:”\n\n\t\t\tHelp\n\t</a>\n\n" when I log in my account in China. But it works perfectly in US. I followed your instructions and got the following error message. But i could not figure out how to fix it as I am new to OJS programing. Please help me to identify. Thanks!

Hi @Jinger,

What version of OJS are you using? Please include that in your posts.

That log is quite cluttered, but I don’t see anything relevant to what you describe. Have you checked your browser’s console on the page before the message you quoted? It’s possible that the browser encountered a Javascript error and didn’t process the next JSON server response as it ought.

Hi @Angelica_en_Colores,

Have you tried flushing your web browser’s cache and reloading the page? It’s possible that the Javascript from your old version is still loaded in the browser.

It looks like you’re encountering a front-end problem. Can you find your browser’s debug tools and look at the error console on the page before the one that shows the JSON message ({"status": true, ...)?

I think the error is happening on the page before you see the JSON message in your browser. Can you check there? Alternately, there should be an option somewhere to preserve errors across requests.

The UsersAndRolesTabHandler the error message refers to is from OJS 3.0.x and has been removed in 3.1.x and newer; see e.g. [SOLVED]OJS upgrade 3.0.2 to 3.1 error Users& Roles Pages - #7 by 1116. The most common cause of this is a browser cache, but if you’re seeing this on other browsers/systems as well, then is it possible that there is still OJS 3.0.x code on your server?

Is very hard for me to know if there is still any code OJS 3.0. since I did the update some months ago, I just know that I’m using the same bootstrap template on both versions… could be the error being coming from this theme? in case it’s not, is there a simple way to dismiss everything and reinstall the new version without lost settings or data?

Hi @Angelica_en_Colores,

I’d suggest downloading the latest stable release and starting with that. If you follow the instructions in docs/UPGRADE.md under “1. Full Package”, and then follow the instructions under “Upgrading the OJS database”, all your content will be migrated. Please make sure you have a complete backup before starting.
