Need advice on plugins compatibility after upgrade to 3.4.x.x

Greetings!

I am upgrading OJS from 3.3.0.8 to the most recent version OJS 3.4.0.1. I have two lists of plugins in Website settings and I wonder whether any of them are not supported in 3.4.0.1. If someone can from the top of their head point me out to a potential problem with a plugin (like not being compatible with 3.4), that would be much appreciated.

The “Installed plugins” tab has:

Acron Plugin
AddThis Plugin
Articles Report
COUNTER Reports
CrossRef XML Export Plugin
Custom Block Manager
Custom Header Plugin
DataCite Export/Registration Plugin
DC Metadata Format
"Developed By" Block
DOAJ Export Plugin
Dublin Core 1.1 meta-data
Dublin Core Indexing Plugin
Google Analytics Plugin
Google Scholar Indexing Plugin
JATS Metadata Format
JATS Template Plugin
Keyword Cloud Block
Language Toggle Block
MARC Metadata Format
MARC21 Metadata Format
mEDRA Export/Registration Plugin
Native XML Plugin
Paperbuzz Plugin
PDF.JS PDF Viewer
PKP Usage statistics report
PubMed XML Export Plugin
QuickSubmit Plugin
Resolver Plugin
Review Report
RFC1807 Metadata Format
Static Pages Plugin
Subscriptions Report
TinyMCE Plugin
Usage event
Usage Statistics
Users XML Plugin
View Report
Web Feed Plugin

while the “Plugin Gallery” tab has:

AddThis
Backup
COinS
Custom Header Plugin
Custom Locale Plugin
DOI to mEDRA xml export and registration plugin
JATS Template Plugin
Keyword Cloud Plugin
Matomo
OAI JATS Plugin
OpenAIRE Plugin 2.0
OpenID Authentication Plugin
ORCiD Profile
Paperbuzz
PKP|PN (PKP Preservation Network) Plugin
QuickSubmit

The two tabs share only 5 plugins:

AddThis
Custom Header Plugin
JATS Template Plugin
Keyword Cloud Plugin
Paperbuzz

That’s maybe because I installed quite a few of them manually until I solved a problem with not being able to untar archives. So, I now have a mix of plugins installed manually and automatically and your help figuring out what to watch for before/after the upgrade is most welcome!

Hi @Lolekbolek,

Have you checked out/are aware of the plugin compatibility tool: PKP Plugins List ?

You should be able to get a good sense of which plugins have been upgraded for use /tested with 3.4.

Off the top of my head I’m pretty sure that the Keyword Cloud Plugin, Paperbuzz, and PKP PN plugin are not yet compatible with 3.4, but the plugin compatibility tool will likely demonstrate that there are several others.

Thank you, Roger!

The compatibility took (which I haven’t used before) took all the fun guesswork out the equation :frowning: So, it looks like in my case only these 9 plugins have a 3.4.x.x compatible version:

AddThis Plugin
Backup
COinS
Custom Header Plugin
Custom Locale Plugin
JATS Template Plugin
OAI JATS Plugin
ORCiD Profile
QuickSubmit

It is heartwarming to see that JATS Template Plugin and OAI JATS Plugin are up-to-date, because we need them so our journal can be harvested. On the other hand, I wonder whether it is OK to upgrade with quite a few other plugins not yet being compatible? One plugin of note is Custom Block Plugin, which we use, and I see a couple topics from people who had problems during/after upgrade related to his specific plugin.

Hi @Lolekbolek,

Depending on the extent to which you rely on those plugins which are not currently upgraded, it might be worth waiting. It is peculiar that the custom block is not showing, I see that there has been a recent release for it for 3.4: Tags · pkp/customBlockManager · GitHub - @asmecher - any idea why this wouldn’t be showing up in the compatibility tool?

Hi @rcgillis / @Lolekbolek,

The compatible version of the Custom Block Manager plugin ships with OJS, so is not included in the Plugin Gallery.
