Insert Facebook button to the OJS webpage (version 2.4.8.0)

#1

Hello,

We have an OJS website in which we host all of the faculty journals. Recently we created a Facebook page to help apread our news and I wonder if there is any way we could add a Facebook button not to a specific journal but to the website we host them instead.

Thank you for your patience!

Hi @periodicosfale,

What version of OJS are you using? (Please include this in your posts.)
I assume you’re using a plugin to add the Facebook link (e.g. AddThis or Shariff or the Custom Header Plugin)?

Hello Alex,

Sorry for not mentining the version. I fixed that.
So… I didn’t try anything yet, because I don’t have Administrator permissions… I’m asking because the person who has it said it’s not possibie to include the icon, only the URL, but I wanted to check it here before simply accept it.

Do you think any of those plug-ins could do it? If so, I’ll tell the person about them.

Thank you for you support!

Hi @periodicosfale,

Thanks – I’m still not sure I’m picturing the same thing you are, though; could you include e.g. a quick screenshot of where you’d like to place the button?

I don’t know if this is what I understand:
You may go to templates/index/site.tpl
then add the facebook share button anywhere you like.

Your administrator maybe know how to edit PHP Smarty templating.

Hi asmecher,

I can surely add a picture. Here is goes:

See? What our coordinator means to do it to insert a Facebook icon intead of the textual link, as it has been done. It doesn’t even need to be put where the textual link is right now. What we are looking for is a way we could put the icon to our page somewhere, to draw more attention to it (it there is any way we could do it).

I’m also sharing with you the link to out website so that you can see its stricture: http://www.periodicos.letras.ufmg.br/

Thank you again for you kind support!

Stéphanie Paes.

Hey strong text

Thank you, but it’s not the sharing buttor we are looking for… We want to insert to our page a Facebook icon linked to our page in that social media.

And I can’t tell if the Administrator knows PHP Smarty templating. I don’t know what his programming abilities are…

Anyway, we keep on trying!
Thank you again!

Hi @periodicosfale,

You should be able to enter any HTML you want in the journal’s description field, where you’ve placed the text link, including image tags.

Hi! We are exploring OJS 3.0 and we have a similar question: we have our own facebook page, as well as Academia and Twitter, is it possible to nk to those pages? Can I do it as administrator? In that case, what are the steps? I also need to add logos on the side bar, can all of this information appear on the right side of the journal page?
Thank you in advance for all the help and for the patience !

Hi @estudiossociales,

Have a look at the “Add This” and “Shariff” plugins – I believe both are available via the Plugin Gallery within OJS. If you’re actually using version 3.0, I’d strongly suggest upgrading to the latest release (currently OJS 3.1.1-2) – there have been lots of improvements since 3.0.
