How to set up a journal with 3 main sections

Hello

I’m new to OJS, and considering adopting it for an existing journal.
We plan a Journal with 3 main project areas (let’s call them Politics; Space; Culture). Each project will have Issues.

I’m wondering what’s the best way to set this up:

  • how to display the 3 Projects on the home page (when you click on a project, you’ll be taken to its Issues)
  • how to create Issues for each Project (as Volumes don’t accept a text string such as Politics)
  • Is it easier to set up 3 journals as a mult-site (seems over-kill?)

I suspect this will require some customization (to a theme)? How complex it be. I have some basic php knowledge.
