How to move issues from 'future' to 'past' section and keep original publishing date

I have imported a lot of old issues using XML. The problem is that, although I set the publishing date in the XML code to their original date, i.e. 01-01-1973, the issues appear under the tab ‘future’ in the ‘manage issues’ section. I want them to appear in the ‘past issues’ section. I managed to get around this by setting an issue to ‘unpublished’, and than again to ‘published’, but then the original publishing date is overwitten, and set to today’s date. However, I want to keep the original publishing date. What can I do?

I have found a solution, bij changing te publication dates of the issues in the ‘past’ section. But still its unclear to me why issues that are entered with a past date appear under the ‘future’ tab. Can someone explain this?
