I checked the forum and I didn’t see this direct question asked or answered, so here we go.
We’re currently creating a Child Theme (of the Bootstrap theme, rather than our production theme, Immersion) and testing it in staging. I created a staging clone of our production site last Friday. Normally, staging works by applying all the changes we want to make there, and then overwriting production with staging once everything is tested to work the way we want. But this could be problematic with DOIs, since we are currently updating them after migrating our journal from WordPress to OJS. For the time being, we’re holding off on assigning any DOIs. But that impacts our timeline of getting the DOIs corrected.
I realize there may be a workaround but I wanted to check with you since OJS is new to me: Maybe I can test the child theme in staging and, instead of overwriting production with staging, I can switch the parent theme (with child theme) on the production site after I’ve tested it.
Is this a sound strategy?
If not, should we just hold off on assigning DOIs and overwrite production with staging once the changes are complete? Also, since we have two sites at the moment (on different subdomains), could users be directed to the staging site? If so, how do I handle that?
