How can author ask for a waiver for fees during submission?

Hi, we have OJS 3.4.0.

According to PKP docs (https://docs.pkp.sfu.ca/learning-ojs/3.4/en/subscriptions), in subscription management workflow the Editor can request a publication fee or accept a waiver for fees.

  • In which part of submission workflow the author can check a waiver option, and so ask for it?
  • Eventually, how can we add a fast track option with a different fee amount?

Thank you,

Enzo

Hi @Enzo,

I believe that in OJS 3.4, “Enable Author Fees” lets the journal charge an APC that is requested only after the review process is completed and the article is accepted. At that point in the editorial workflow, the editor should see a screen where they can request payment of the APC or waive the fee before sending the acceptance notification to the author. Perhaps you could try selecting the Waive option, and then try progressing in the workflow to see if this is the case? I haven’t used it.

Hi,

yes, this is how it works. However I’m asking if the editorial decision for the waive can be requested by the author during the submission of the article.

This is the workflow as I guess:

The author submits the article selecting the fee or the waive > The editor accepts (after eventual rewiew process) the article requesting the fee or selecting the Waive option, as in the screenshot, but after an evauation of the author’s request.

Thank you.

Hi @Enzo,

Thanks for the additional info. At present, OJS is not designed to work in this manner with respect to waivers. Customizing it would likely require modifying the code, which comes with certain risks. What you might wish to do is create a post in the Feature Requests category (following the provided template) here in the forum and provide additional details on how you might want to see the waiver present itself within the submission process. If any others in the community have figured out any other way to present the waiver at a different stage, I’d be curious to hear it.

Best regards,
