Recently, one of our clients who manages a multilingual journal using OJS 3.3 encountered a rather unique issue. The problem was that when exporting article XML files for DOAJ or Crossref in OJS, the metadata language would follow the article’s “Primary Language” — that is the language chosen by the author when the article was first submitted:
However, the journal manager wanted the exported XML metadata to be in English. But in this case, the exported article XML appeared in French, because the author had selected French as the “Primary Language” during submission.
To solve this, we made a small modification so that the metadata language in the exported XML follows the currently selected interface language in OJS (the one chosen via the language selector in the top-right corner of the OJS dashboard). This makes the XML export process more seamless and ensures that the metadata is generated in the manager’s preferred language.
