Export and move journal

I am trying to move our journal to a different server with a different OJS installation. I’ve found guides for exporting/importing the users and articles, but not all of the other settings in a journal (journal name, description, submission parameters, review form, etc.). Is it possible to transfer all journal settings to a new installation?

OJS version: 3.3.03

You can move the OJS to a different location (server) similar way as upgrading on the same system.

Hi @sharoz,

Are you trying to move a single journal into another existing multijournal install? We’ve seen this attempted before it it’s not really feasible to transfer a journal from an existing OJS instance. Importing/Exporting the data (e.g. back issues), as you noted is an option, but you’d likely have to reset the settings (e.g. enter in all the setup info) manually.

Yes, exactly. It’s good to know that we didn’t miss some option somewhere. But please do consider this a feature request! The scenario we have is that we set up OJS on a personal server to fine tune the settings and test everything out. Now that we’ve adjusted it how we want, we want to move it to a public-facing server that someone else is administrating. Because we were just testing, we want to transfer everything except submissions and issues.

Hi @sharoz,

Thanks for clarifying. This is discussed somewhat here: Migrate multiple journals into one and it’s noted that better import/export options are a part of the roadmap for future development, however, that may not be for a while yet.
