The eLife Lens article viewer usually works fine, except for files that do not contain graphics (i.e., when the tag is missing). In these cases, an “Error during loading” is displayed in an infinite loop.
What application are you using?
OJS 3.4.0-8

Otherwise, the XML files are ok. They pass PMC validation and are displayed in PMC. This should be only an OJS issue.

Can you provide a XML sample? I guess the problem must be at another repository (GitHub - elifesciences/lens: A novel way of viewing eLife articles. · GitHub), which was kind of abandoned, but looks like it will come back to life (https://elifesciences.org/for-the-press/60edaa10/elife-receives-wellcome-boost-to-build-open-publishing-ecosystem).

we solved the issue, but I can’t remember how. As I recall, the problem was not due to the missing tag.
