Conference procedings with many volumes should be set up as issues or journals?

Hello,

I would like to ask about the best practice for publishing conference proceedings with many volumes, i.e., when the conference is held biannually.

I created one journal intending to use ISSUE for particular volumes, see here: https://elex.link/ojs/index.php/elex/

However, I am now thinking if this access is the most appropriate?

If yes, I am interested in the possibility of how to add the ISSUE information to the citation format. The citation looks as follows:

Evaluation of the Cross-lingual Embedding Models from the Lexicographic Perspective. (2023). Electronic Lexicography in the 21st Century, 1-18. https://elex.link/ojs/index.php/elex/article/view/1

But I want to modify it to this:

Evaluation of the Cross-lingual Embedding Models from the Lexicographic Perspective. Electronic Lexicography in the 21st Century. Proceedings of the eLex 2023 conference. 1-18. https://elex.link/ojs/index.php/elex/article/view/1

to add the ISSUE name ā€œProceedings of the eLex 2023 conferenceā€ to the citation.

Hi @michalc,

From what I’ve seen, those who use OJS for conference proceedings, name it ā€œProceedings of X conferenceā€¦ā€ or something similar. This seems to be the most common practice. There are some examples here: https://library.ualberta.ca/publishing/open-journals

Naming it in that manner should put it in place of the journal title. It might be worth testing out.

Hi @michalc,

there is also ā€œConferenceā€ plugin in the Gallery that does some renaming of the UI and also adds a event date to the conference volumes (formerly issues).

What the plugin, however, does not, is to send conference materials in the correct type to Crossref. I’m currently working on an extension for this.

Hi all,

Thank you for your information. It seems our current naming based on the conference name follow the most common practice.

The mentioned Conference plugin could be a good extension of our OJS website. I will explore it more. Thank you for this reference.
